About this book
Ava finds her 45-year-old tortoise, Albert, really boring. He doesn't do much and he's not even cuddly. But when her aunt's dog scares Albert into running away, Ava realises how much she loves him. Can Ava and her dad find Albert before he gets into real danger?
A lovely book in the Little Gems series, which is perfect chapter book for new readers and also printed in dyslexic friendly font and paper type. There aren’t too many words on the page and there are engaging and sweet illustrations on most pages which add warmth and delight to the story. The chapters are short, and there's even some facts about Sulcata tortoises on the inner cover.

Books featuring single dads for children 6 and up
Parents are not usually the focus of books for children – they’re not the ones having the adventures, after all! Here are some of our favourite stories that happen to have a single dad, including some adoptive dads, in the background. Sometimes this is through death, sometimes divorce, and sometimes the reason is never mentioned. All children will enjoy these fantastic stories for readers age 6 and up.
