The Last Boy

At six years old, Brewster was sold to Master Sweep. His brother’s thumbprint sealed the deal and condemned him to a life of filth, misery, and physical torment as he spends 18 hours a day up soot-clogged chimneys. 

Now aged 12, Brewster is philosophical about his destiny. He has a ‘climbing boy’ family, one meal a day, and a wash three times a year. But his great joy is numbers, and with them he has predicted the meteor shower that will undoubtedly provide enough stars to make sure his dearest wish comes true: that he will be the last ever climbing boy.     

When a wealthy lady becomes aware of Brewster’s gift, his wish comes even closer - but will his figures let him down just when he needs them most? 

Although not a horror story in the conventional sense, Brewster’s story is utterly horrific - and all the more so because it is based on real characters and factually accurate experiences, with gut-wrenching descriptions bringing a grim reality to life.
