About this book

Archie adores his Granda, so when he’s rushed to hospital, it’s a terrible shock. Luckily, he has his mates Kyle and Deela to support him, but he could really do without the Robson twins, who are vicious bullies and seem determined to make this his worst summer ever.

200 years previously, Billy and 74 other men and boys go to work down the local coal mine, but a terrible disaster means that they never come out again.

On a blistering summer day, a storm of biblical proportions causes some sort of rift in the space/time continuum and Archie is swept away to where Billy and his co-workers are trapped. As past and present collide, it’s not clear who is who and whether anyone will survive. Or is this all a figment of an overactive imagination?

Set in north-east England, this is a gripping, powerful tale of heritage, love, loss, tragedy, kindness and cruelty.

With multiple strands to the narrative, Archie has many experiences that readers will relate to, but there are also episodes of nail-biting tension and others that have a sense of the surreal, bringing real-life history into the here and now.

An absolute page-turner.
