About this book

Due to a bad experience with an unkind auntie when he was younger, Gerwyn refuses to read anything! It’s not that he can’t read – it’s just that he won’t read! Even though not reading causes Gerwyn no end of troubles, he stubbornly refuses to change his mind. However, during a family holiday, his visit to a shop full of unusual objects leads him on an unforgettable adventure where he is forced to think again about his feelings about reading. Gerwyn must navigate his way through a fantastical journey that includes challenges such as talking mountains, giant flying ducks, poo-snails and zombies. But even after he overcomes all of these problems, and even with the help of some unusual friends he finds along the way, Gerwyn still refuses to read and as a result can’t find his way home. It becomes clear that in order for him to return he must truly appreciate and recognise the importance of stories. When he finally accepts this, he is able to reconnect with reading and go home. This is a fun-filled book full of larger-than-life characters, funny play on words and eye-catching sketches that is a great choice for even the most reluctant reader.
