About this book
Ama loves dressing up. What will she dress up as this week?
On Monday, her hat is yellow and hard. What job might she have today? Yes, a builder! On Tuesday, her hat is tall and white. Yes, she’s a chef! Join Ama as she does a different job, with a different hat, all week, even at the weekend.
This simple concept of a hat symbolising a profession is very effective, as it allows the child reader to guess the job before they turn the page. The jobs covered include pilot, bike courier, racing car driver, firefighter and astronaut, as well as builder and chef.
There are no other clues beforehand, but as part of the ‘reveal’ there are three pages showing Ama in each role in the appropriate setting, in bright, attractive pictures. Relevant details have labels here, like a fire engine.
Any adult and child reading this together would have lots to discuss for each job. And it could be fun to ‘guess’ the wrong job on a second read-through, to make the child laugh, and allow them to be right. At the back, there’s a ‘match the hat to the job’ game too. Check out the companion book: Dress-Up Jobs: Shoes.
