About this book
Today Suki Cat is an astronaut! Join her as she zooms to the moon and helps an alien. Push the sliders and pull the tabs for an out-of-this-world experience!
This charming board book has a simple story, with lots of chances for interaction. There are tabs to pull and sliders to push or waggle back and forth – even on both the front and back covers. These mechanisms change the pictures, rather than reveal something like lifting a flap does.
For instance, you can make Suki change into an astronaut’s clothes and then back into her dungarees. The agency (or power!) this gives the reader will delight young toddlers, and will mean they can enjoy the book almost as a toy, by themselves. Manipulating the sliders will help improve their fine motor skills too.
But sharing the book with an adult provides the extra unmissable element of listening to a story, and the chance to admire the lovely illustrations together and spot things, like Suki’s mouse friend. For such a simple book, there is much to discuss and enjoy. Perfect for sharing with toddlers.

Books to develop fine motor skills
Babies and toddlers love using their hands and books are excellent tools for encouraging their fine motor skills. This selection of sturdy board books includes lots of flaps to lift, trails to follow with a finger and sliders to push and pull. Children love the fun of making things happen, and they don't necessarily need special features. Turning the page of any book brings a change of picture and demands excellent hand-eye coordination and pincer grip (or grasp).
