About this book

Dante Nimrod Ferno lives with his embarrassing family in Brimstone, a devilishly hot town populated by a variety of mythological residents.

Dante has been bullied mercilessly at school ever since ‘The Incident’, when his trousers fell down in the cafeteria and revealed his teddy bear underpants.

However, with Year 6 behind him, Dante plans to reinvent himself as a popular kid when he starts at Purg High School in the neighbouring town of Blisshaven. Unfortunately, day one doesn’t go to plan, and Dante quickly attracts attention for all the wrong reasons.

Dante is slightly alarmed when Virgil, who is angelic, kind and wears a halo, chooses to sit next to him, but as the pair hang out together, something resembling friendship begins to develop. Determined to shake off his loser status, Dante enters them in Purg’s annual Ring of Fire Quiz. Surely, if they win the competition, they can no longer be seen as ‘losers’?

With a daft plot and larger-than-life characters, this hilarious chapter book also explores some serious issues, such as dealing with bullies, developing resilience, and making friends. This first tale in a series, it's illustrated throughout with entertaining, sketchy drawings.
