About this book
Colin the vampire and his best friend Duck live a peaceful, pampered and vegetarian life in their castle together. Instead of flying around like a bat at night, you’re more likely to find Colin trampolining or watching a cosy movie. But, when his grandma comes to stay, she has very different ideas about how vampires should live, and things start to get a little awkward.
Colin’s grandma insists on staying up all night and sleeping during the day. She doesn’t believe in cleaning, and, worst of all, she thinks that ducks are not allowed in a vampire’s castle. Colin decides that enough is enough. He stands up to his grandma and shows her that not all new things are bad. If you are brave enough to try vegetarian stir fry, you might just end up loving it!
This picture book is sweet, funny and thought-provoking all at once. Colin and Duck are a great pair and readers will love their dynamic, but, add a vampire granny with a pet crocodile and the book truly comes alive! Holly Swain’s illustrations are hilarious, and the characters’ expressions convey loads of personality and nuance.
At its heart, this book shares a message about being true to yourself and not conforming to other’s expectations. A great picture book.
