About this book

It’s bedtime for all the little diggers, cars, dumper trucks, buses, helicopters and planes. But the bright-eyed little yellow digger still has more to do: there’s a big pile of colourful fruit to be fetched and lifted.

Tomorrow there will be lots of exciting things to lift and transport – a giant cupcake to a bunnies’ tea party or a mountain of jewels, perhaps. But, for now, all four of the busy little yellow diggers have to climb the sleepy hill to beddy-byes and tuck into their cosy little shed. And, it’s bedtime for the sleepy little listener of this story, too.

Smriti Halls is at the top of her game when it comes to perfectly-pitched rhyming texts for children in the early years. The repetitive rhyme here of “it’s bedtime for…” works so well in including all the varied and interesting types of transport that little ones love, as well as inducing a calming and soporific effect when read aloud – perfect for bedtime. Picture book powerhouse Sue Hendra’s (the illustrator of the Supertato series) bright and friendly illustration gives just the right level of interest, cuteness and expressive vehicle faces for little ones.
