Time to Read for teachers or home educators
At BookTrust we know that reading has so many benefits for children. It can help them deal with new and challenging situations. That's why we're sending out Time to Read packs to every Reception child in England and every Primary One child in Northern Ireland from this September, to help them settle into school a little easier.
Together, we can get families reading together with their children. To help them do this we are giving every Reception pupil in England and every Primary One pupil in Northern Ireland a copy of The Runaway Pea by Kjartan Poskitt and Alex Willmore – it's a fantastically funny story that is sure to spark every child's imagination!
From September 2020, your school will receive a delivery of books to give out to your Reception or Primary One class.
On the Teacher Letter that can be found on this page and inside your delivery boxes, you'll find lots of ideas to help you theme a lesson or activity around this year's Time to Read book, and get your class excited about reading with their family at home.

We also try to reach families of Reception-aged children where the child may not receive their pack through school. This could include: looked after children, children in hospital, or Gypsy, Roma and Traveller families.
