This curated programme of 40 books and supporting resources has been specially created by BookTrust to help schools inspire their Key Stage 3 students to read regularly and build their reading enjoyment.
About the Spark Reading books
The titles have been carefully selected by an expert panel of librarians and practising teachers to represent the best of modern fiction and non-fiction. Five of the books have been chosen for group reading sessions, with lots of scope for discussion and activities, led by the guidance in the supporting resources. The other ten titles provide fantastic reads that will appeal to a wide range of interests and reading levels – all ideal for reading aloud in timetabled library time as well as engaging reluctant readers.
The pack includes all the support you’ll need to develop sociable reading experiences, giving students the confidence and structure to start and maintain a reading habit.

- Five group reading sets – including six copies of each book (30 copies in total), printed Reading Guides full of discussion points and activity ideas, plus online resources including engaging author videos introducing the books to the group and offering ideas for follow up activities
- Ten further titles across a range of genres – each specifically picked to build reading enjoyment
- A programme guide with support and guidance for running the sessions plus posters to create eye-catching displays.
