Bookbuzz Primary
Launching in March 2026, our new Bookbuzz Primary programme supports Key Stage 2 children to develop reading for pleasure and book choice skills.
About Bookbuzz Primary
This new programme of expertly curated books and grab-and-go resources for Key Stage 2 has been developed by BookTrust to support you to get your children excited about reading for pleasure.
BookTrust has worked with teachers and pupils to create a new evidence-informed offer for Key Stage 2 children after delivering its successful Bookbuzz Secondary programme for ten years. Through its Bookbuzz Secondary programme, BookTrust has delivered books to 2 million Year 7 and 8 students, helping them build positive reading habits.
Bookbuzz Primary gives children in Years 3 – 6 the opportunity to choose and keep a book they’ll love from 16 diverse and inclusive titles handpicked by our expert panel of teachers. The books are newly selected each year and include the best new fiction and non-fiction titles across a range of genres, book types and reading levels.
By using Bookbuzz Primary with all your Key Stage 2 pupils, you increase the excitement felt by the children. By creating more opportunities for peer engagement and support across classes and year groups you increase the opportunities for book talk and sociable reading.
You’ll receive all the tools you need to successfully deliver the programme in a way that works for you, your colleagues and your pupils. Use our pack to create engaging sessions that give children the opportunity for book talk, social reading experiences, to physically interact with new diverse books and develop the skills to successfully choose a book they’ll enjoy – important factors in encouraging children to read for pleasure.
Why buy Bookbuzz Primary?
Our research shows that children’s reading enjoyment declines between the ages of 7 and 11*. While 33% of seven‑year-olds tell us they ‘love’ reading, this drops to 29% at age 10 and further declines to just 25% by age 11.
Additionally, 63% of Key Stage 2 teachers told us that they are concerned about their pupil’s overall level of reading enjoyment*.
This is where Bookbuzz Primary comes in. The programme supports you to inspire your pupils’ love of reading at this crucial moment in Key Stage 2; by giving pupils the chance to choose and keep a book they’ll love from a curated selection. All while helping to meet your school’s reading goals and bring reading to life.
As expectations of independent reading increase, many schools struggle to sustain pupils’ motivation and enjoyment alongside curriculum pressures. Our recent survey highlighted that almost 7 in 10 teachers (69%)** are seeking additional resources and/or support for reading for pleasure. Bookbuzz Primary supports reading for pleasure at this crucial point without adding to teachers’ workload.
Bookbuzz Primary supports children to develop positive, lasting attitudes towards reading by placing enjoyment, choice, and ownership at the centre of the experience.
Research evidence shows that allowing children to choose books fuels their motivation to read and helps them to read more. And we know reading has many benefits from helping children to develop language and literacy, progress across the curriculum, and improve their wellbeing.

From fascinating reads for curious minds to fast-paced page turners and graphic novels to fact books, there’s something for everyone, whatever their interest or reading level.

Some of the Bookbuzz Primary books are also available in large print or braille. Coordinators can order these specially printed books with the rest of their Bookbuzz Primary order.
