Be an eco-warrior and win a copy of A Climate in Chaos
"I wrote ‘Climate in Chaos’ to help explain as simply as possible what Climate Change is, why it’s so important and what we can do about it. Along with big changes that can be made there are also many smaller ways to help the planet." - Author Neal Layton
No matter who we are or where we live, climate change affects us all. It can feel scary and overwhelming - especially if you're a younger person - but there are so many ways you can help to make a difference and look after the planet we share. When we all join in, we can change the world. Neal Layton has outlined some quick tips below from his new book, A Climate in Chaos - and we're offering three lucky winners the chance to get their hands on a copy of their own!
Reduce, reuse or repair.
Factories make carbon dioxide when making things for us to buy. So if we buy less things, or perhaps are more careful with the things we buy, it will create less greenhouse gases. And if something is worn out or broken, how about mending it, or reusing it in a different way?
Cars make carbon dioxide too
We need to walk or cycle as much as possible. And if your family does need to travel in a conventional car, try to fill up all the seats by offering lifts to other people.
Turn it off!
Turn off your televisions, phone chargers and other electrical appliances when you aren’t using them. Leaving them on standby uses almost as much power as when they’re fully switched on.
Eat your greens rather than lots of meat
Just one cow can burp and fart out 100kg of greenhouse gases a year! But you don’t need to cut out meat completely – even leaving meat out of your meals for one or two days each week will make a difference.
Talk to your family and friends about climate change
If everyone understands what is happening, we can work together to find solutions. There are more than 7.5 billion people living on Earth right now. If we all did a little bit to help, it would add up to a lot!
