The Dodo Who Dreamed She Could Fly

Publisher: Simon and Schuster

A little Dodo has a dream: she wants to fly, even though Dodos are too round and generally not aerodynamic. There has never been a flying Dodo, but this fact doesn’t stop her: she tries and tries, despite some mean Dodos making fun of her not being able to get off the ground when she practises. She reads all the books and researches flying, but, try as she might, she just can’t manage it.

Retreating to her room and feeling rather sad, the little Dodo goes back to the books. And, with some wise words from Dad, she gets a new idea. Will it work? The only thing she can do is try it!

This heartwarming rhyming picture book about following your dreams and not giving up, no matter what others might say, is an absolute delight. Emmett’s rhyming text bounces along beautifully, making it a total pleasure to read aloud, and Powell’s bright and empathetic illustration is a joy.
