Lulu’s Nana Visits
Publisher: Alanna Max
Young Lulu is so excited that her Nana-Bibi is coming from Tanzania to visit her and her family. Lulu helps mummy and daddy get ready for her arrival, changing bed sheets and cooking a special welcome meal. When Nana-Bibi arrives from her long flight, she unpacks and gifts everyone with presents from back home. Lulu gets a new hippo toy and baby brother Zeki is thrilled with his new drum. Mummy and Nana-Bibi talk and talk, they have so much to catch up on. They make plans for Nana-Bibi’s visit and they do it all: they go shopping together, learn Nana-Bibi’s special mandazi doughnut recipe and spend their evenings dancing and listening to stories.
Lulu’s Nana Visits is a warm and touching picture book offering insight into different family dynamics. It also celebrates the special moments shared between familiar generations. Like all the Lulu books in the series, the text is simple, relatable and approachable.
The illustrations are absolutely darling. Beardshaw brilliantly captures some truly tender moments between Lulu, her mother and her grandmother. One standout spread shows the Nana-Bibi braiding Mummy’s hair while she braids Lulu’s and Lulu styles one of her dolly’s hair.
