Dexter Lost His Boo-Woo
Publisher: Hodder Children’s Books
Dexter has lost his Boo-Woo, and he’s inconsolable. He’s looked absolutely everywhere, and there’s no Boo-Woo, so he calls the police, and then the firefighters. Then helicopter rescue gets involved.
But what is a Boo-Woo, exactly? After Dexter paints a picture of a huge, snake-tailed, ten-cars-tall, horned, pointy-toothed and floppy-eared monster, all the emergency services and townspeople are somewhat relieved – and bemused – when Dexter finds a Boo-Woo in the playground, looking rather like a stuffed toy.
Yet after everyone’s gone home, Dexter finds his real Boo-Woo – and it’s a lot bigger than the stuffed toy. And it seems that a little girl has lost her Boo-Wee, too…
This excellent, funny and rhyming picture book features both a relatable theme – favourite toys, blankies and snugglies, and what happens when we lose them – and a really enjoyable, readable rhyme.
Ben Mantle’s Boo-Woo Monsters, Inc.-type monster is just the right level of adorable, and there’s plenty of action and fun detail in the pages to keep little ones entertained, with picture book supremo Shane Hegarty’s text powering along effortlessly.
A really fun read with brilliant visuals that understands how sad little ones are when they lose their favourite toys.
