About this book

Don't be fooled by the cutesy title. The particularly 'Wabbit' in the story is anything but sweet! Fidge is a clever, slightly cynical 11 year old who is flung into the world of her little sister Minnie's favourite story - the world of the Wimbley Woos, creatures of many different hues who only speak in rhyme. Fidge must solve a multitude of ludicrous puzzles to escape with only her awful cousin Graham and various toys that have come alive to help her. And if she fails not only will she be stuck in the world of the Wimbley Woos where Wed Wabbit rules with an iron paw, but Minnie will die -  as the poor girl is in a coma after being knocked over by a car, an accident caused by Fidge (and the glassy eyed Wed Wabbit).

It's a surreal and strange tale that works because author, Carnegie and Costa children's Book Award shortlisted Lissa Evans, is a comic genius. This book is seriously laugh out loud funny and the writing sparkles with wit. A surprising, hilarious and read to be savoured that may help pre-teens to appreciate their home and family, and encourage all to take a careful look at the facial expressions of soft toys.

About the author

Lissa Evans still remembers writing her first joke, aged seven (it involved a hippo). She never lost her interest in funny lines, and, following a medical degree, she changed careers to become a comedy producer for radio and TV, where her credits included Father Ted. Eventually, after a decade of running a red pencil through other people’s work, Lissa began to write something of her own.

Her first book for children, Small Change for Stuart, was shortlisted for the Carnegie Medal and the 2011 Costa Children’s Book Award. Her books for adults include Their Finest Hour and a Half, which was longlisted for the Baileys Prize and made into a recent film (Their Finest, starring Bill Nighy).
