About this book
Samm Wolfback fled from Faerae when he was a small child. Along with thousands of others, he had no choice.
Faerae and its people were being devoured by war, by the Scourge, whose creatures were so deadly that only the Dragon’s Eye could keep them at bay. When it was stolen, the Faerae folk were doomed.
But the human world in which they found themselves didn’t know what to do with them and herded them into dreadful camps rife with disease, crime, and poverty.
So, when Joe Lively, instigator of a complex and dangerous plan and self-proclaimed boss-man of the camp, offers Samm the chance to escape, he doesn’t hesitate.
A circus of nightmares, a kidnapped human child carrying a power he cannot control, and a museum housing a murderous exhibit are just some of the things that lead up to a breathtaking final act.
An ingenious and compelling fantasy adventure that combines complex magic with issues of asylum and refugees fleeing war and persecution that are hugely relevant in today’s world.
Although Samm’s story is accessible to younger readers, some gruesome scenes and the levels of trauma make it more suitable for those aged 10 and over.
