About this book
This hilarious retelling of the classic Greek myth Jason and the Argonauts centres around feisty 11-year-old Phoebe, who lives on the island of Lemnos. Bored of her dull, uneventful life, Phoebe can’t believe her luck when the Argo sails into harbour during a storm. Seizing the opportunity for adventure, she stows away on board the great ship. Although she is quickly discovered, Phoebe persuades Jason and his crew of Argonauts to let her stay, in exchange for her – rather dubious – prophesising skills.
Phoebe joins forces with shapeshifter Perry and wannabe-siren Cora to form the Othernauts, who are keen to help the Argonauts in their quest to find the golden fleece. However, they face danger at every turn, from witches and harpies, and deadly sea monsters and skeleton armies. Do the Othernauts have what it takes to save the day?
Bursting with humour and mayhem, this retelling remains largely true to the original, while presenting the story in a fresh, funny way that makes it highly accessible and hugely entertaining for junior readers. Comical illustrations are featured throughout, which perfectly complement the witty text.
