About this book
Hari the tiger lives with his mother in the Malaysian jungle. He loves snuggling up among the leaves and listening to stories about the ancient Kingdom of Tigers – where tigers roamed free and lived in harmony with the forest. But things in the jungle have changed. Now, tigers run in fear of the human machines that are destroying their home.
When Hari encounters some of these machines he ends up being separated from his mother and must join a group of displaced animals to go in search of the mythical Kingdom. Along the way, Hari sees the impact humans have wrought on the environment before eventually reconnecting with his mother in an optimistic finale.
This fantastic book by Felicity Yeoh explores themes of habitat loss in a sensitive way. The rhyming text and the immersive, vibrant illustrations have a timeless feel and are truly beautiful together. Hari is a brave and resilient character that children will root for, and his journey through the jungle will generate lots of discussions about the importance of caring for the natural world.
This would be a perfect book to use in schools as a prompt for lessons involving environmental themes and animals’ habitats.
