About this book
In late August 1939, as the adults around them prepare for a declaration of war, Tilly and Rosy are more concerned with their den in the woods and spending time playing with Tilly's dog, Bonny, and Rosy's little cat, Tinkerbell.
Amidst the digging of shelters and sewing of blackout curtains, the girls learn that London's children are to be evacuated to the countryside, and domestic pets are being put down. Horrified at the thought of losing their faithful companions, they take decisive action to try and keep them safe.
A Blytonesque interpretation of true events set in an era when children had more freedom, yet less autonomy, than today. Animal lovers will be enraged and moved by the story of a group of youngsters determined to save their beloved pets from the consequences of misguided government advice.
