When Stan and his sisters went out to get chips, they hadn’t expected to return to a house that was now just a pile of rubble. But this is the summer of 1942 and London is being bombed on a daily basis.

Like thousands of other children, Stan is evacuated to the countryside, where he finds himself in a rambling old house full of dark passageways and hidden secrets. Not far away, Olive discovers the body of a German soldier washed up on the beach and finds evidence of a potential Nazi invasion. And, a little further away, Velvet must go rogue to save local pets from the bombs.

This trio of stories combine dramatic, relatable depictions of historical events while demonstrating the reality of life as an evacuee during World War Two. Each story stands alone but all are connected by a common thread.
