About this book
A woman stands on a beach holding a red ball. A dog watches her expectantly.
When she says ‘Fetch!’ the dog runs after the ball, swiftly followed by more and more dogs. Very soon, it’s a race to get the ball, through the town, up on a steel girder in a building site, and then down, down, down a very long fire escape.
On and on the chase goes, attracting more and more dogs, until eventually the huge crowd of canine pals find their way back to the beach, where the woman is waiting with the ball, ready to start all over again.
Bloomfield’s brilliant picture book, lovingly detailed with so many different types of dogs and backgrounds, is a super read for any dog lover. It’s a simple concept, but the illustrations are full of the simple joy of a game of chase. Young readers will love spotting all the different dogs – including one with wheels to help him run – and the final, fold-out spread showing the crowd of dogs is a real delight.
