About this book

Bear is happily asleep in his comfy yellow chair, in his cavernous lair, when Hare decides that they want to go to the fair.

Despite Bear expressing his lack of interest, Hare drags Bear to the fair and starts trying the different rides. But Bear isn’t a fan of the swingy ones, the twirl and whirl ones, or the thump and bump dodgems. However, the rollercoaster seems much more up Bear’s street…

In this bright, fun rhyming book, Em Lynas uses sound repetition – bear/lair/hare/dare, etc. – as well as fun rhyming verbs – bump/thump/bash/smash – to aid in young children’s language acquisition and understanding.

All the language used is fun to read and listen to, with lots of exclamation type words added in as well – whoosh, wooo, wheee, aargh and eek! – which gives the adult reading the book aloud lots of opportunity to make silly noises that the child can copy and join in with.

All these clever touches – as well as Matt Hunt’s bright and zany character illustration – make for a lovely book about friendship, trying something new, and going out of your comfort zone.
