About this book
Did you know that there are more than 400,000 types of plant on planet Earth?
Some are taller than skyscrapers and some are smaller than a full stop. All plants have stems – a tree's is called a trunk – and some flowers turn into fruit. And, interestingly, humans eat several kinds of grass, for instance wheat, rice and sugar.
Written in association with the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, this slim book is packed with fascinating facts about plants, including how they make food, how the seeds are distributed, and how some can attack insects! It showcases the wide variety of plants that there are, and includes information on how humans can use them.
The bite-size facts are just right for a young child at primary school to read and the bright illustrations are clear, and not too technical, as well as friendly. There is a helpful glossary at the back too. This is a warm and useful first science book.
