About this book
A small child goes to a new park with their two dads. Yet, when they get there, Dad and Daddy are very cautious about them doing anything – according to the grown-ups, everything is too high, too fast, too slippery, or too big.
Dad and Daddy confess that they’re still pretty new to being parents, and so they need to learn how to let their little one have fun without worrying too much.
Luckily, the child has a brainwave, and decides to involve Dad and Daddy in their imaginary games. Soon, the ropes and ladders become a ship and they’re pirates, sailing the stormy seas; then, the trio are swinging from the monkey bars, imagining they’re going from branch to branch in the rainforest, avoiding being snapped at by crocodiles. What fun!
After all that play, it’s time for hot chocolate and to imagine what new adventures the three of them will get up to – after all, with Dad and Daddy by their side, the little one knows that they can do anything.
This is a warm and comforting hug of a book with beautiful pictures filled with imagination, and a gentle message about parents letting their children have some independence to play and take risks in appropriate environments.
In the end, it’s the child’s imagination that saves the day and inspires their parents to relax and have an adventure as a family, while staying safe.
