About this book
In the super colourful city of Sparkleopis, you’ll find a seriously awesome superhero named Uma. Together with her Nani and Chip, her unicorn sidekick, she goes on rescue missions, solves crimes and generally spreads happiness across the city. Until one day the city’s fabulous colour and sparkle starts to disappear. The Super team need to find out why Sparkleopis’s sparkle is fading and how they can stop it in time for the annual Festival of Fun.
This vibrant picture book tells the story of teamwork and empathy. As Super Uma sets out to solve the mystery of the fading sparkle and colour, she learns that different environments don’t always suit everyone. Through the energetic tale, author Rashmi Sirdeshpande sensitively addresses the topic of sensory overload and accessibility, touching on the importance of making environments safe and happy for all.
Full of joyful South Asian representation, the illustrations wonderfully depict the city’s vibrancy and sparkle. The characters are charming, especially Chip the unicorn, whose cheeky personality jumps out on every page.
