11-year-old Amber’s life is very ordered. She works hard at school, revises at home, and she particularly loves Computer Science. She can’t remember when she last had fun.

But when she goes to stay with her uncle in Brixton, and an actual real wolf leaps out of a screen, her life takes a surprising turn. Not only do fairy tale characters exist in another world, but she and her uncle have to rescue Little Red Riding Hood from the Wicked Witch, with the help of Hansel and Gretel!

In a magical world that’s full of tech like skycraft, crazy motorbikes, and cyber critters, Amber must use her coding skills to defeat the Witch and save the day. 

This is an exciting, pacy adventure that weaves in a lot of emotion too. Poor Amber is stifled at home – and she discovers a tragic secret from her dad’s past, which adds pathos. Rutendo Dione plays with fairy tale tropes – Red is a boy, for instance – and the result is an unpredictable and very enjoyable story.
