Old MacPumpkin Had a Farm
by Katrina Charman, illustrated by Georgie Birkett
Interest age: 3 to 6

About this book
Old MacPumpkin had a farm. Eek! Ahh! Eek! Ahh! Ohhh! And on that farm she had a cat, a creepy creeping spider, a swishy swoopy bat, and a clicky clacky skeleton, among other friends. Jinkies!
As the title and spooky-themed cover would suggest, Old MacPumpkin doesn’t just own any farm: this farm is noticeably Halloween-themed, and there are ghosts and monsters there as well as a rather cute top-hatted spider.
Luckily, everyone seems pretty friendly, and when they come a-knocking for trick or treat, Old MacPumpkin invites everyone in for a cosy snuggle around the fire.
This is a cute reinvention of the 'Old MacDonald' nursery rhyme with a seasonal theme, and would be a lovely one to read or sing aloud with little ones. There’s not so much of a story here and it’s all about the rhyme, but that’s more than OK for young readers who will love singing along and learning new words like 'swish', 'swoop', 'click' and 'clack' as they do.

Books based on nursery rhymes
Babies and toddlers love songs, especially those with actions. If there are pictures and books involved too, this is even better! These books feature traditional nursery rhymes, or variations on them. Enjoy sharing them together.
