About this book
This is the second book in a series about real-life dog Jack-Jack, who first met biologist and broadcaster Professor Ben Garrod in Africa. They soon became firm friends and Jack-Jack agreed to move to the ‘Yookay’ with Ben, where this adventure begins.
When Jack-Jack arrives at his new home, Ben wants to start ‘training’ straight away. Jack-Jack agrees that Ben could do with a few lessons, as he has some very strange ideas. For example, why would he throw a manky ball halfway down the beach and expect Jack-Jack to retrieve it – not just once, but multiple times?
Thankfully, Ben soon learns the ropes and the pair quickly settle into a pleasing routine. However, their peace is disrupted by the arrival of Newbie, a ferocious rescue cat who digs her claws in and steals Jack-Jack’s food. After conferring with a wise old Staffie in a café, Jack-Jack comes up with the perfect plan to put the feline firmly in her place.
Charming and funny, this delightful chapter book is generously illustrated with characterful, energetic black-and-white drawings. The story provides a dog’s-eye view of the ups and downs of living with humans and confirms that canines are definitely in charge!
