Incey Wincey Spider (Sing and Sign)
by Annie Kubler
Interest age: 2 to 3
Published by Child’s Play, 2004
About this book
Learn how to use signs and actions to tell the classic nursery rhyme Incey Wincey Spider.
The book clearly lays out each part of the rhyme with an accompanying action, plus an illustration of a young child doing the action themselves. Some of the actions are simply that – e.g. actions to indicate Incey climbing the waterspout or being washed down again – while others are specific sign language signs from British Sign Language. Where a sign is used, this is shown by including next to the illustration the word that the sign is for – such as ‘spider’, ‘rain’ and ‘sun’.
Signs and actions are a great way to develop communication before your child can speak – and fun too! Other books in this Sing and Sign series include Twinkle Twinkle Little Star and Teddy Bear Teddy Bear. If you want to use more sign language, look out for the Sign About series and Hands On Songs series from the same publisher, Child’s Play.
