We are all different. We look different, believe different things, think differently, learn differently – even move differently. Differences are a natural part of human diversity.  And it’s these differences that make us human. Indeed, disability makes us human.

The book starts with the basics – such as the fact that one in six people in the world is disabled. We see some of the reasons, some of the forms this may take, and some of the ways in which people may need to do things differently.  It reminds us that not everyone can do everything – and that’s ok. No two disabled people have the same experience (even if they appear to have the ‘same’ impairment) and disabled people aren’t ‘inspirational’ for just going about their everyday lives. Above all, disability is not something terrible or something to be ridiculed or ashamed of. We can be proud of our differences.
