About this book

Harmony House sits in the middle of town, but people pass it with frowns on their faces, because there’s always a terrible noise coming from it!

All the residents of all the different flats like to play different instruments at different times: Gabriel likes to play the violin early in the morning when his neighbour Ade is sleeping, Ade’s drums disturb Mei while she’s trying to study, and Mei’s flute playing disturbs Mrs Singh and her family when they’re having dinner. Disaster!

Yet when the residents of Harmony House are told that the local council is threatening to make everyone leave if the noise doesn’t stop, they realise that they need to find a way to live in harmony.

Luckily, Melody, a shy girl living at Harmony House, leads the way, and the residents find that working together as a wonderful and diverse band solves all their problems.

This lovely, music-themed book about tolerance, diversity and working together highlights urban living, cultural diversity and a brilliant range of different musical instruments in a gorgeously illustrated picture book.

It’s nice to see families living in a city and renting apartments which is the reality for so many children, and not so often represented in picture books. A heartwarming tale with plenty of tunes.
