About this book
As Cleo enjoys her chosen bedtime book, Hansel and Gretel, she confidently declares that she would never be fooled by an evil witch, no matter how good her cottage tasted. Cleo is thrilled when she is magically transported into the book and is determined to help the lost siblings get home safely. However, as they venture deeper into the cold, dark forest, the three children become increasingly tired and hungry.
They can’t believe their luck when they stumble across a quaint little house made from gingerbread, chocolate cake and cheese scones. Despite Cleo’s misgivings, they each have a nibble – after all, what harm could it possibly do? The owner of the cottage, kindly Aunt Waffle, admits that she is a witch, but a good one, so the children have nothing to fear – but can she really be trusted?
Short chapters make this an ideal book for early readers, and the colourful, glossy illustrations on every page provide plenty of visual prompts to help them with the storytelling. Full of silliness and humour, this is an enjoyable contemporary twist on a traditional fairy tale.
