About this book
A little mouse dreams of building a house in the forest. When a woeful homeless frog appears, explaining that the pond has dried up, Mouse kindly suggests they build a house together.
As the pair gather the materials they need to construct their home, they are gradually joined by a medley of animals, including a bear, badger, fox, hedgehog and a family of rabbits, all of whom have found themselves displaced or alone. Together, the eclectic mix of creatures joyfully create a beautiful home where everybody is welcome, no matter who they are or where they come from.
Split pages build up layers of the story and the muted, natural tones of the lovely illustrations evoke the gentle woodland environment. Thoughtful rhyming text and the repetitive chant of ‘everybody’s welcome’ reinforces the poignant message of tolerance and inclusivity, which is integral to this heart-warming tale of love, friendship and hope.
