About this book
Kit is furious with his best mate Hamza. Well, his ex-best friend.
Hamza took the money they’d earned together and spent it on a girl! Now Kit’s elderly neighbour wants them to do another job together. It’s a weird job – taking a roast turkey across London to her friend’s house – but Kit reluctantly agrees.
Will the boys make it to their destination before the turkey gets cold? And will they ever speak to each other again? So begins a strange journey involving the police, the bomb squad, and a scary street gang; the boys getting themselves into various ridiculous situations as it becomes a race against time.
This very readable story is funny and exciting, with a surprise at the end. The theme of male friendship isn’t often explored in fiction, and after reading this, the reader may consider accepting their mates for who they are, even if they do occasionally do stupid things. (Though if you’re the one who betrayed your mate, you should apologise!)
Dyslexic readers will appreciate the yellow paper, low page count, and space around the text, as these make it appealing to read. Plus, the black and white illustrations add character and drama.
