About this book
Monster Friend is very excited that it’s lunchtime, and that can mean only one thing: it’s time for a stinky, yucky Monster Sandwich!
However, Monster is appalled that young readers aren’t interested in his sandwich of old socks, earwax, snot and pongy cheese – but when he eats it all, he finds that he feels a little off colour...
There’s a gentle theme here about trying new foods: Monster Friend can’t quite believe that the reader of the book doesn’t want to try his disgusting Monster sandwich, but he is just as horrified about eating the strawberry on the top.
It may be a new experience for the little one listening to the story to feel like the "sensible" eater, and the book could open up an interesting conversation about trying new foods, why we like and dislike the foods that we do, and what it might be like to build – and eat – a yummier version of the monster sandwich!
Fans of Are You a Monster? – which won the BookTrust Storytime Prize in 2024 – and its sequel Are You a Sleepy Monster? will adore this deliciously yucky new addition to the Monster series.
