About this book
Fluffy, Duffy and Scruffy Gruff live in Belfast.
When Da suggests that they head to the Botanic Gardens to have a picnic, the kids get on their bikes and go – but not before Da’s given them a map of the city and a warning not to cross the Albert Bridge, lest they disturb the troll that lives underneath it.
Exploring the city on the way to the Botanic Gardens, the children pass Belfast landmarks such as the Titanic Building, the Odyssey Arena, City Hall, and St George’s Market, and are given directions by a ship at the docks, a crane, and some helpful pigeons.
Finally, they find the Botanic Gardens and enjoy a lovely picnic. Then, it’s time to go home, but... oh no! They get lost again and find themselves at the Albert Bridge. Will their clip-clopping awaken the troll – and what will they do to defeat him?
This lovely, colourful homage to the city of Belfast would make a fun story for any child visiting, or anyone that lives there and wants to learn about the special things in their city.
Mixing local legends and celebrating proud landmarks, this is a super book from a debut author-illustrator.
