Bookbuzz Primary books are chosen by an independent panel of experts. The panel includes Key Stage 2 teachers, English Leads and teachers in charge of their school’s library.

Engaging pupils as readers is one of the most important things we do as teachers. Giving them the opportunity to develop their own reading identity and find books that they can relate to is essential.

What I love about selecting books for pupils is giving them genuine ownership over their choices as readers. They need to be reading books they’ve chosen, rather than just ones we’ve told them to read. Guiding and nurturing is important, but we need to let them have the final say.

With Bookbuzz Primary, the children are developing their love of reading. It’s absolutely necessary to do something to help the children enjoy reading and want to pick up a book and explore the magic they can find in the different types of books they’ll read.

For us, the programme certainly helps develop children’s love of reading and expose them to a wider range of texts. A lot of the books are wacky, funny and creative stories that grab the children’s interests and widen the children’s views of the world of reading.

A lot of the time our more reluctant readers don’t know what kind of books they like. So, what the quiz did was help a lot of them to just take a moment to say, “oh, maybe there is a book out there I like”. It was a nice way to get them engaged in talking about books and reading and just broadening that horizon of theirs.

The books are fantastic. The selection is lovely. There’s nice non-fiction in there and some good graphic novels and fictional books too and they range from slightly simpler stories to something more complex.
