Sharing Stories at Home: teacher resources for Reception parent workshops
Supporting Reception families to keep reading for pleasure at home.
Starting school is a key moment for children’s reading, but BookTrust research shows that time spent reading for enjoyment can decline. It is also a time when families are often open to support as new routines and expectations begin to form.
Over the last year, BookTrust and Wandle English Hub have worked with schools and families to understand how best to support Reception-aged children (4–5) to develop a love of reading. These resources are shaped by that learning and wider research. They are designed to complement schools’ existing approaches to early reading and phonics teaching, while also helping families build confidence and enjoyment in reading at home.
