Goodnight Mister Tom
Publisher: Puffin
Willie Beech is evacuated to a tiny English village in the country just before the outbreak of World War II. A lonely and deprived child, he finds himself living with the reclusive, gruff old widower, Thomas Oakley. Although the two find it hard to adjust to their life together at first, they gradually develop a strong, mutual bond. Willie begins to enjoy life and make new friends in the village.
However, everything is thrown into confusion when Willie is suddenly recalled to London by his neglectful and abusive mother. After several weeks with no letter from Willie, Tom Oakley becomes concerned for his welfare and sets out to London in search of him.
Michelle Magorian's classic wartime story is a superbly written and deeply moving tale, which shows that even the most unlikely people can become exceptional parents.

I really liked this book because you don't know what will happen next so its very exiting. The characters in this book are all quite different which makes it not be boring. my favourite character in this book is Ginny because she decided to take a test that girls didn't usually do. I would recommend this book to children above the age of 9 as it is a good book but some parts are sad and parts of it could be quite disturbing for younger children.

I like this book because it is very entertaining and I like that they started of not knowing each other to being like family. I also like that it shows you can make the most of a bad situation. My favourite character was Zach as he is always optimistic, cheeky and adventurous. I also like that he is so nice to willie. I would recommend this book to children over the ages of 9. I give this book a 5/5.

I have really enjoyed reading Good night Mr Tom as it make you want to read on. It is really emotional and joyful at the same time. My favourite part of Good night Mr Tom is the part when Willie was writing his name as it made me imagine what they were doing inside my head. I definitely recommend this book to children from 9 upwards as there are some words that are tricky to understand.

I think that this book is a fantastic story. It is really engaging to read. I really wanted to move on and carry on with the story. My favourite charater is Tom. He is really kind to Willie, and he was caring for him, unlike his mum, who was horrible and usally beat him up. I really liked this book and I would love to share it to all of you who have not read the book.

I enjoyed this book as it is a moving story about a boy who was evacuated in the war. His home life was not good so he was lucky to get evacuated. The person he was living with was nice and the boy liked where he was.

I really liked this book because it was very moving to read. The characters were well developed and I ended up really caring about Tom and Willie, willing them to stay together as a family. My favourite character is Zach as I liked how posh he was and how different he was to all the other characters. I also liked that he was Willie’s best friend. I would recommend this books to children no younger than 9 as it is quite sad in parts and may disturb younger readers.
