About this book
It’s park time! Let’s go! Wellies on. Coat on. Off we go!
When we get to the park, there are birds and squirrels and lovely doggies to spot. It’s fun to have a go on the swings and slides and seesaws. There’s time for a snack, and to see the ducks. Then it’s home time. Bye bye, park!
This delightful board book is bright and cheery, and encompasses most children’s experiences of going to the local park. We follow different children throughout, having fun with each other and with their families.
Unusually, rather than narrative sentences, the text comprises familiar phrases that an adult might say to a child such as, ‘Nearly there', 'Well done', 'Hold on tight’ and so on.
Author Priya Desai is a children’s speech and language therapist, and this is the first book in a series designed to support language development as children move from single words to simple word combinations. No doubt toddlers will enjoy recognising the phrases from their own lives and joining in with them.
The bright, bold illustrations add lots of character, and the families depicted are nicely varied. The chunky format, with rounded corners, is very toddler-friendly. And there’s a mirror at the end! Gorgeous.
