About this book
Dare you open this intriguingly titled volume? If you do, you will discover the World Behind the World - a world through the sideways door. Here there are ever-hungry monsters, children with strange powers, horrors that shouldn't happen - and even a Nightmare Pig. Read on ... if you dare!
This is a collection of loosely linked stories, comic strips and ephemera - all unsettling, chilling or downright terrifying. Playing on familiar tropes, such as the tooth fairy, the monster in the woods, and beloved toys coming to life, these tales of terror from the talented Guy Bass are not for the faint-hearted. The stunningly intricate illustrations by the genius David Roberts are crucial in adding depth to the horror, and in visualising some (some!) of the terror for the reader (and including more to spot). To add to the atmosphere, the artwork is predominantly black and white, with red used in judicious places - except for one comic strip story that by contrast is all the more sinister for being in bright, bold full colour.
There is a dark sense of humour threaded throughout this book, but the more nervous reader may find it a challenge. For those who enjoy being unnerved and even frightened, this is deliciously chilling.
