About this book
Olivia lives in the house with the little red door, where the floorboards creak and the windows whistle. It’s a nice house, but Olivia is lonely.
Mouse lives in the big oak tree at the bottom of the garden, where the cutlery clatters and the clock tick-tocks. It’s a lovely tree, but Mouse feels lonely.
One day, after a heavy snow, Mouse’s lovely oak tree falls over. Olivia makes him a cosy new home in a plant pot, but Mouse is still lonely. Perhaps there’s something that can be done to make sure that Mouse and Olivia both feel happy and homely?
Easton’s stunning picture book about friendship and home has all the cosy feels. Her warm, detailed artwork is full of delightful details and beautiful papercraft flaps, meaning that young readers can spend ages looking inside fridges and food cupboards at all the tiny beautiful bits and bobs. There’s a fantastic flap where the reader can look at the whole inside plan of the house itself, and the final heartwarming double page spread where we see Olivia and Mouse in the kitchen together is the perfect end to a perfect picture book. Highly recommended for slightly older readers who will treasure the pages.
