About this book
The Call masterfully blends fantasy, horror and folklore. The Sídhe are vicious fairy-type creatures that have been banished by humans to another land. They take their revenge by 'calling' teenagers to the Grey Lands, where the teens are hunted, tortured or killed.
These teenagers are in the Grey Lands for 24 hours in that world - but just three minutes in the human world. Few teens survive, and the ones that do are sent back in an unrecognisable state.
The main protagonist Nessa is crippled by polio, and isn't expected to survive. But she is going to do whatever it takes.
It is easy to root for heroine Nessa, as she uses her wits and determination to prepare for when she gets called. This book is not for the faint of heart, but will appeal to readers who like their fantasy on the gory side - and to fans of The Hunger Games.
