About this book
A lovely introduction to simple sign language signs about food and mealtimes that can be used with children from a young age.
Alongside an illustration of a child making each sign, there is a short description to explain the movement or hand shape required. The illustrations are clear and easy to understand, showing a diverse group of babies and toddlers, and there is not too much on each page so they do not become overwhelming.
Learn how to sign general items such as ‘drink’ or ‘bowl’ as well as specific foods (e.g. ‘cereal’, ‘apple’ or ‘rice’) and concepts such as ‘please’, ‘thank you’ and ‘full up’. All of the signs used are from British Sign Language, so if you decide to continue using signs with your child as they get older, these will offer a strong base from which to develop their use of this language.
Other topics in the Sign About series to look out for are ‘getting ready’, ‘going out’ and ‘play time’.
