About this book

Jeremy Strong is already well-known for his various irreverent chapter book series, and now, through the beady eye of Croakbag the Raven, he introduces lower junior readers to the mysteries of Roman life. The son of a wealthy family, eleven-year-old Perilus is crazy about chariot racing and determined to find an opportunity to put his skills to the test in a real race. Unfortunately Perilus tends to be accident prone, but eventually achieves his goal.

Strong's hilarious and pun-filled text, and Rowan Clifford's numerous excellent comic illustrations provide an ideal introduction to Roman life, and to those bits of the Latin language we still use. Details of everyday life, customs and social conventions are seamlessly slipped into the knockabout humour.
