About this book

Experience the sights and sounds of the jungle in the first of a new series of Slider Sound books from Usborne in which familiar animals are brought to life by an interactive sliding mechanism. Toddlers will love the tactile element of the sliders as they make the animals appear and disappear, each time accompanied by exciting and realistic sounds. Visually, the book is bright, vivid and engaging with each jungle scene providing plenty for young detectives to examine.

Roarr! offers lots of opportunities for early reading skills and cognitive development. Children will practice fine motor function and finger strength whilst manipulating the sliders; they will reenforce simple recall and chorusing skills as they join in with the animal noises and they will have opportunities to develop their vocabulary with their reading partner as they search out wildlife in the illustrations. Similarly, this book lends itself well to developing early counting and colour recognition skills. Try challenging young readers to count all the red animals on a page or to see how many birds they can spot. With fun sounds, pleasing illustrations and an interactive aspect, this is sure to become a favourite story time book.

About the author

Sam Taplin has been in love with words for as long as he can remember. He started writing poetry at primary school, where Mrs Holloway warned him never to put a word in a poem just because it rhymed - advice he still tries to follow when wrestling with a new poem. After studying English literature at university he was full of long words and complicated sentences, but writing books for children has helped him to realise that you don't need lots of words to say something properly - just the right ones.
