About this book
Whether it’s a broken bike or a flat tyre, Mechanic Cat and Rescue Rat are the pair to fix it!
The first call of the day comes from Guinea Pig, who took a tumble while doing a wheelie on his bike and got stuck in a bush. Then Duck needs an urgent hand with her campervan tyres, or she won’t be able to head off on holiday.
It’s tiring work for the Rescue Crew. The furry pals are starting to get hungry and are desperate for a break, but the rescue calls are non-stop.
After mending Squirrel’s tractor, Mechanic Cat and Rescue Rat can finally sit down for some lunch. But the pair have parked up beside a lake and the grassy bank is too slippery. With the most enormous splash, the breakdown truck ends up in the lake! Who will save the stranded Rescue Crew, and will they ever get to eat their lunch?
From the writer who brought us Octopants, this is a funny tale about community and adventure, written in the author’s signature bouncy, rhyming style. Children will love the bright and energetic illustrations and enjoy spotting all the different vehicles, from bicycles and tractors to campervans and diggers.

Books about people who help us, for age 0-5
Discovering people in our community who help us (and their exciting vehicles!) is a key part of children's early years. As their worlds broaden to people and things outside the home, so they learn how some people have jobs that keep us safe and well. These are some of our favourite books to engage and excite young children on this topic.
