About this book
Today is the day of the Big Bug Race, so grab your book and give it a shake! In this fantastically fun board book, children are encouraged to tilt the book or use their fingers to slide counters to move cute insects around the pages. There are beetles to wake up, bright butterflies to race and cheerful bumblebees to zoom across the pages in search of flowers. Each time it is read, the races can turn out differently, so children can add to the narrative and keep coming back for more.
Teresa Bellón’s artwork really pops, and each page is filled with colourful, friendly minibeast characters. The racing and peekaboo themes are great for adult-child interaction and make the reading experience varied and lively. Manually moving the insect counters along the tracks is also great for developing fine motor skills in young children and the mechanisms feel solid and satisfying to interact with.
A brilliant pick if you want to make story time lively and interactive. Look out for other titles in the Ready, Steady Race! series.
